CBSsportsline should delete the sexy ads

So I’m sitting here in my office grading papers – but trying also to keep tabs on the New York Giants, who are playing the Philadelphia Eagles. A win clinches the NFC East for the Football Giants. First, I go to NFL.com, whose play by play does not automatically generate. Since I do not want to keep hitting refresh, I head to cbssportsline, where I am greeted with an ad of a woman trying to pose seductively – head back on a pillow, hair mussed just enough to say she’s been busy, a green skirt just long enough to cover the upper thighs, full lips parted (and wanting to say ‘come, hither’), and brown eyes imploring me to click on the icon. Sports writers sound off on BCS

The Oklahoma Daily embraced the latest shift in the BCS polls. Oklahoma’s college newspaper blasted the news that the Sooners had leaped over the Longhorns in a huge headline. The lead story clearly shows the newspaper has no problem with the BCS outcome.

After a month of calamity in the BCS, the computers shined OU’s way and have landed the Sooners at No. 2 in the nation and in their third straight Big 12 Championship game.

I’m not so sure the calamity has ended, though. Only a true playoff system could halt the problems associated with pollsters and computer rankings. (more…)
